SISU Thunderbirds Forward Gavin Lafferty Advances to SIJHL with Ironwood Lumberjacks
The SISU Thunderbirds College Prep program is proud to announce the advancement of forward Gavin Lafferty to the Ironwood Lumberjacks of the Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL), a Tier 2 league under the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL). This milestone marks yet another success story for the Thunderbirds as they continue to develop players and provide pathways for their progression in hockey.
Expressing his excitement about joining the Lumberjacks, Lafferty shared, “I am very excited to be joining the Lumberjacks and become part of the program. I can't thank Coach Lein enough for giving me this opportunity. I’d also like to thank my family and the entire SISU Thunderbirds organization for making this possible.”
The impact Lafferty made during his time with the Thunderbirds was significant. Justin Cohn, Head Coach of the SISU Thunderbirds College Prep team, praised Gavin’s dedication and leadership: “Gavin has been an outstanding leader and player for our program. Adding to this sentiment, GM David Dew, reflected on Lafferty’s journey: “Lafferty came to us with the goal of reaching Tier 2 Junior A hockey. We knew exactly what it would take, and Laff fully embraced the challenge. His hard work and eagerness to learn earned him a spot with the Ironwood Lumberjacks at the midway point of his post-grad season. We are extremely proud of Gavin’s achievement. Since joining the Lumberjacks, Lafferty has already begun contributing on the ice. In his first 13 games, he has recorded a goal and two assists, showcasing his potential to thrive at the Tier 2 Junior A level.
