Coaches Code of Conduct
coaches code of conduct
- Player-Centric Approach: Winning is a consideration, but not the only one, nor the most important one. Prioritize the well-being of the player over winning the game. Remember, players are involved in hockey for fun and enjoyment.
- Role Modeling: Be a positive role model to your players. Display emotional maturity and be alert to the physical safety of the players.
- Communication: Be generous with your praise when it is deserved. Be consistent, honest, fair, and just. Do not criticize players publicly. Strive to be a more effective communicator and coach. Refrain from yelling at players.
- Player Development: Adjust to the personal needs and problems of players. Be a good listener. Never verbally or physically abuse a player or official. Provide all players with the opportunity to improve their skills, gain confidence, and develop self-esteem.
- Practice Organization: Organize practices that are fun and challenging for your players. Familiarize yourself with the rules, techniques, and strategies of hockey. Encourage your players to be team players.
- Parental Communication: Maintain an open line of communication with your players’ parents/guardians. Clearly explain the goals and objectives of your Hockey Club.
- Player Well-being: Be concerned with the overall development of your players. Stress good health habits and clean living.
- Internal Issue Resolution: Address player issues internally prior to involving parents/guardians.
- Certification: All coaches will be USA Hockey certified, background checked, and Safe Sport certified.
- Feedback Sessions: Coaches will meet regularly with players to give and receive feedback.
- Player Privacy: Coaches will only provide specific player information to that player and their immediate family.
- Love of the Game: To play the game is great - to love the game is greater.
This code of conduct serves as a guideline for coaches to ensure a positive and safe environment for all players.
