SISU THUNDERBIRDS COLLEGE PREP SOARS PAST KERNELS

The SISU Thunderbirds College Prep team earned their first-ever victory on Saturday night (9/7/24), defeating a seasoned Battle Creek squad. A first-period scoring surge set the tone, as the Thunderbirds locked down defensively for the remainder of the game. The team displayed relentless effort and energy throughout the full 60 minutes.

Battle Creek opened the scoring early in the first period with a goal from Arkadiusz Sobesto. However, the Thunderbirds quickly responded with a breakaway goal by Christian Storey. This sparked a scoring frenzy, with Tyler Cavar (assist: Colin Dorsey-Burdick), Colin Dorsey-Burdick (assist: Luke Marchant), and Gavin Lafferty (2 goals; assists: Thomas Parini and Trevor Stanley) all finding the back of the net.

The second period was a defensive and goaltending showcase, with neither team able to score. Both teams displayed strong physicality and pace, leaving the score at 5-1 heading into the third period.

In the third, the Thunderbirds continued to press offensively, adding one more goal. Christian Storey scored his second of the night, sealing the 6-1 victory. Jack Miller was stellar in net, stopping 31 of 32 shots and securing his first Junior/Prep win. His timely saves and quick reflexes were crucial to the team’s success.

A special congratulations goes out to Christian Storey, Tyler Cavar, and Colin Dorsey-Burdick on scoring their first career Junior/Prep goals.

Head Coach Justin Cohn: "The players hold themselves to a high standard here, and that speaks volumes about the guys we have in the locker room. They are fully bought into the culture and belief in one another. One thing that is non-negotiable for us is the effort we put in, and the effort was relentless against a very good Battle Creek team. I’m proud of the guys and excited to get back to work."

General Manager David Dew: "We have certainly arrived. This is the standard, and anything less is considered failure. This group battles for 60 minutes, regardless of the score or opponent. We have lots of work to do and are looking forward to more big wins."
